The secret garden – Frances Hodgson Burnett

Read it
Immediately described as disagreeable, at the opening of the novel Mary Lennox is unloved and unwanted. Dumped with servants while her parents were busy with parties, Mary was virtually unnoticed until her parents died of cholera. Shipped off to the wild moors of Yorkshire to live with her reclusive, hunch-backed uncle, she and her sickly cousin soon find themselves enthralled in their ‘secret garden’. The power of nature to heal the children becomes apparent and the joy they find in the garden changes their lives.
