People of the Book – Geraldine Brooks

When a rare-book expert named Hanna Heath finds a butterfly wing, salt crystals, a white hair, and wine stains in a rare illuminated Hebrew manuscript, she sets out to solve the mystery of the book’s origins. The perilous journey of the book is traced through five centuries — Sarajevo 1940, Vienna 1894, Venice 1609, Tarragona 1492 and Seville 1480. The people into whose hands it had fallen emerge to tell their stories. People of the Book combines a complex love story and a gripping mystery with a vivid history lesson.
