Raven’s Gate – Anthony Horowitz

Punished for a crime he didn’t even commit, Matt chooses what seems to be the lesser of two evils: avoid jail, and go and live with an old lady called Mrs Deverill in a small, remote town. Big mistake. Virtually a servant in a house where there is only the old lady, the creepy hired-hand, Noah, and her frightening cat called Asmodeus, he soon realises that there is a sinister plot afoot. Are people trying to help him escape … or die? There is an inextricable link between Matt’s fate and an evil place called Raven’s Gate, which becomes horrifyingly clear to the fourteen-year-old orphan. The first in the Power of Five series.
