The hitch-hiker’s guide to the galaxy – Douglas Adams

This is the first in Adams’ trilogy (… which is in five parts) and unfortunately for protagonist Arthur Dent when he wakes up hung over one Thursday morning it is the beginning of his rather unexpected intergalactic space odyssey. Ridiculous and hilarious in equal measures, Arthur soon realises that his rather miserable Earth-bound existence was nothing compared to the challenges of navigating the distant reaches of space and time in his dressing gown, desperate for a cup of tea… Swept up into a space ship with his friend Ford Prefect – who turns out to be a hitch-hiking alien researching for the ultimate travel guide to the universe – Arthur heads off on an adventure that no one seems to know anything about.
